Pat Glass (MP) Visits Derwentside College

Tuesday

Young people in North Durham have been getting careers advice from their local MP.

Pat Glass, who represents the Consett and Crook areas in the House of Commons, met students from Derwentside College last Friday afternoon.

The students, who are studying a variety of courses at the College, shared their views around the careers advice and guidance they received prior to enrolling at Derwentside College.

Susan Errington, Executive Director - Business Development said: “Our students were absolutely delighted that Pat Glass MP took time out of her very busy schedule to visit to hear their views on advice and guidance within the district. They spoke about the significant support they have received since joining Derwentside College.”

The lack of impartial and informed careers advice is a longstanding issue for young people across the area.

The Education Select Committee, of which Pat Glass MP is a member, is carrying out an inquiry into careers advice for young people in post-14 education, training and employment options. The Association of Colleges (AoC) is also leading a campaign called Careers Guidance: Guaranteed, calling on the Government to ensure that all young people have access to local careers hubs in each area and careers education that is embedded into the curriculum.

If you wish to talk to one of our careers advisors and receive impartial advice, then call Derwentside College on 01207 585 900 to make your appointment.
