Foundation Learning in Catering and Hospitality

The study of the Catering Service will give you a basic overview into Industry techniques which will increase your confidence and practical skills. You will also be working within a kitchen environment gaining basic cooking skills and knowledge.

There are no formal entry requirements, however; an interest in the Catering & Hospitality Industry would be an advantage.

A variety of learning methods will be used including independent study, group work, practical assessments to support competency and multiple choice exam paper based examinations for each chosen unit.

All units are internally assessed.  Assessment enables your workplace practice to provide evidence for individual units as well as the whole qualification.  

Methods of assessment could include:

  • Direct observation of practice
  • Products of work
  • Verbal and written questioning, multiple choice exam questions
  • Professional discussion

  • Level 1 Certificate in Food Preparation and Cooking
  • Level 1 Certificate in Food and Beverage Service

The College provides a range of financial support to assist learners undertaking a programme of study.  The support is designed to help learners with the greatest financial needs and is subject to specific eligibility criteria being met. Full Time provision for 16-18 year olds is FREE.
Learners aged 19+ studying their first Level 3, the course fee is FREE.
Learners aged 19+ studying a second Level 3 qualification and learners aged 24+ studying at Level 3 can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to fund course fees.  You can discuss this further at your college interview.
