Employer‑Led Curriculum Puts Sustainability at the Heart of Groundworks Training

Derwentside College has partnered with Wyn Construction Ltd to co‑design new sustainability‑focused curriculum content for groundworks apprenticeships, ensuring planned learning reflects current industry practice and the expectations of modern construction sites.

The collaboration involved Wyn Construction and members of its supply chain at the earliest stage of curriculum planning, helping to shape content focused on sustainable materials, responsible procurement, waste reduction and the use of low‑emission plant and processes.  This employer insight has informed the development of two new sustainability modules designed to strengthen the relevance and coherence of apprenticeship provision.

The partnership illustrates the value of close collaboration between education and industry in shaping training that reflects real‑world practice and future workforce needs.
