Education & Early Years

If you are interested in working with children or young people, our Education and Early Years courses allow you to study a wide range of engaging topics while gaining valuable, hands-on experience. You will have opportunities to work in a variety of childcare settings, including nurseries and schools, helping you develop the skills and confidence needed for a career in this rewarding sector.


Entry Requirements

You will need:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths, and GCSE English at grade 5 OR

  • A Level 2 qualification graded C/Merit or above, including Maths, and GCSE English at grade 5

You will also be required to complete a DBS check prior to starting your industry placement. This will be organised by the College.


Learning Methods

You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including:

  • Externally marked written examinations

  • Externally marked employer-set projects

  • Occupational assessments

  • Practical assignments combining knowledge and skills

  • Project and group work

  • Child observations

  • Activity planning

  • Professional discussions


Industry Placement

As part of your course, you will complete 750 hours of industry placement, typically over two days per week. Placements take place in either a school or an early years setting.

You will also have the opportunity to work within the College’s on-site playgroup, ‘Little Learners’, where you will:

  • Plan and deliver activities

  • Support children’s learning and development

  • Interact with parents and carers
