Exciting new Careers Hub welcomes first students

Wednesday

Derwentside College students are now able to access enhanced careers support following the opening of a dedicated new facility.

The Derwentside College Careers Hub, developed in partnership with FutureMe, is now open for students and members of the community to drop-in and speak to the College’s Careers Advisors, view apprenticeship vacancies, and use the careers exploration facilities and specialist careers software to support career planning.

Zac Aldridge, Vice Principal Curriculum and Quality at Derwentside College said: “The opening of our Careers Hub is a vitally important step towards providing our learners, and wider community, with the specific support they need to progress towards skilled employment.  At Derwentside College, we encourage all of our learners to think big about their futures, to aspire to careers they want to be in not just next year, but in two, five and 10-years' time.”

“Our Careers Hub will provide a supportive space to help our learners to scope out what aspirational futures look like for them, and our brilliant Careers team will help them to get there.”

The Careers Hub is staffed by two impartial Careers and Progression Advisors who are qualified to Level Six in Career Guidance. Claire Young and Mary Stokoe work with learners and members of the public to explore careers ideas and support them in their journey to achieve their ambitions.

Learners also benefit from a specialist Work Placement Officer, Laura Henderson, who is also based in the Careers Hub and works with them to source and support them through industry placements. Industry placements give young people experience of the workplace and a competitive edge when applying for apprenticeships or employment, and Derwentside College is fully committed to helping learners get into sustained employment.
