Foundation Learning in Construction

Construction Skills is structured to give an introduction to many disciplines such as Plastering, Painting & Decorating, Tiling, Carpentry & Joinery, Brickwork and General Construction.

This qualification enables individuals to make the correct employment choice within the construction industry.

No formal qualifications are needed but Maths & English would be advantageous.

During the length of the course you will learn about plastering, painting, brickwork and tiling, understanding basic setting out and sub floor and wall preparation techniques in practical and theory sessions.  You’ll also learn about health and safety on construction sites and how important it is.  Other key aspects of the course are communicating with other people and learning about numeracy and literacy skills to prepare you for a life in construction.

Assessments will be carried out in practical settings when completing various activities, oral questions and written assignments. No online exams within this course.

After successfully completing this course you could advance onto an apprenticeship programme or a Level 1 Diploma of your preferred Trade.

Career progression could be into an apprenticeship within the construction industry or the next technical certificate.

Full Time provision for 16-18 year olds is FREE.
Learners aged 19+ studying their first Level 3, the course fee is FREE.
Learners aged 19+ studying a second Level 3 qualification and learners aged 24+ studying at Level 3 can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to fund course fees.  You can discuss this further at your college interview.
