Diploma in Hairdressing and Beauty

This course is for anyone aspiring to become a trainee hair stylist or beautician. It will cover practical and all aspects of theory, with an assignment or exam to cover each unit. You will practice hair services within our college salon, Hairworks and beauty services within Eden.  The college's beauty salon.

You must have achieved an appropriate Entry Level vocational qualification and/ or GCSEs at grade 2-1 (E-F) or above.

Practical and theory based sessions within the hair salon or beauty salon.  Modules on the course may vary, however; you they may include:
  • Health and Safety
  • Styling Hair
  • Plaiting and Twisting
  • Professional Image
  • Shampooing and Conditioning
  • Basic Colouring
  • Reception
  • Working With Others
  • Dressing Hair
  • Creating a Hair and Beauty Image
  • Learning About The Industry
All students will be required to study Maths and English as part of their course.

  • Written tests
  • Practical assessments
This is the main format for assessment on the Level 1.

Once you have completed and passed the Level 1, you can progress to Diploma in Hairdressing Level 2 or Beauty Therapy Level 2. 

With the basic skills you gain on the Level 1, you have the foundations to become an Apprentice within a salon.

Full Time provision for 16-18 year olds is FREE.
Learners aged 19+ studying their first Level 3, the course fee is FREE.
Learners aged 19+ studying a second Level 3 qualification and learners aged 24+ studying at Level 3 can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to fund course fees.  You can discuss this further at your college interview.
