Diploma in Beauty Therapy

This is the perfect course for those wanting to study the basic beauty therapy skills, including manicure, pedicure, make-up, waxing, eye treatments, anatomy and physiology and reception.  You will have the opportunity to work on paying clients in the colleges Health Spa.  The college organises various trips to Beauty exhibitions which is optional for you to attend (costs to be incurred).  You will also have the chance to enter make-up competitions and showcase your skills against other colleges regionally and nationally. 

  • You must attend an interview with the course leader
  • 4 GCSE’s at grade D or above or have competed Level 1 in Beauty Therapy, with a suitable reference
  • Initial assessment results which demonstrate working towards level 1
  • Must be prepared to study Functional Skills in Maths and/or English
  • 100% attendance is expected
  • Must be willing to give and receive all treatments

You will be based in the College Health Spa, Eden, where you will observe demonstrations and practise treatments on each other, before progressing onto paying clients.  Along side the practical sessions, there is a significant amount of theory based lessons which requires you to take notes, listen to presentations, work interactively, and complete written workbooks and assignments.

Practical work is assessed through observation; you will be graded pass, merit or distinction. 
Assessment will take place continuously throughout the course and you are required to complete a portfolio of evidence.
Theory is assessed by online tests which require 60% to achieve a pass.  Home study will be required on an ongoing basis to support your college work and revision. 

On successful completion of this course, you can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy.

There are a range of good career opportunities available to you as a Beauty Therapist with level 2 skills, such as:
  • Working for yourself, some therapists decide to go mobile or work from home
  • In-store beauty therapist or consultant
  • Working in beauty salons

Uniform is free of charge (unless you withdrawer from the course, you will need to return the uniform or be invoiced for the full amount £50 approx.)

Full kit is provided by and remains with the college.  If you wish to purchase your own tools/equipment to take home, you will be given a discount card for a beauty supplier when you start the course.

Full Time provision for 16-18 year olds is FREE.
Learners aged 19+ studying their first Level 3, the course fee is FREE.
Learners aged 19+ studying a second Level 3 qualification and learners aged 24+ studying at Level 3 can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to fund course fees.  You can discuss this further at your college interview.
