The Forensic and Criminal Sector is diverse and wide
ranging. For example, careers include Forensic
Science, Criminal Psychology and Forensic
Criminology. There are a wide range of occupations for
graduate entry including Forensic Laboratories, the
Police Force and the Probation Service.
Entry Requirements
Grade 4 or above (or equivalent) including maths and
English or science.
What can I study?
National Foundation Diploma in Forensic and Criminal
Investigation (Year 1) (equivalent to 1.5 A Levels)
National Extended Diploma in Forensic and
Criminal Investigation (Year 2) (equivalent to 3 A Levels)
The content of the qualifications has been developed in
consultation with academics to ensure it supports
progression to Higher Education. The qualifications provide
the knowledge, understanding and skills that will prepare
you for further study or training.

What could I earn?
FORENSIC SCIENTIST £20,000 - £45,000
(ASSISTANT - SENIOR POSITION)
Forensic Scientists use a range of techniques to find and study evidence from a variety of
sources, like blood and other body fluids, hairs, textile fibres, glass fragments and tyre marks.
They work in the field, where they are trained to recover potential evidence, and also in the
forensic laboratory.
FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY £20,000 - £70,000
Forensic Psychologists work in varied environments, which may include courts, prisons, mental
hospitals, private facilities, and government agencies.
DETECTIVE OR CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR £25,000 - £61,500
Detectives or Criminal Investigators often assess the evidence in an office setting, but much of the
data is collected through on-site visits to witnesses and the crime scene.
