Why should I study OCR Level 2 Certificate/Diploma in Administration (Business Professional)?

The OCR Administration Certificate provides an appropriate qualification for those wishing to pursue a career as a clerical assistant, administrator or secretary. Administration qualifications will equip you with the knowledge, skills and experience to gain employment in a range of organisations.

What will be studied on the course?

  • Business Communication Skills - written and spoken
  • Working in a team
  • Dealing with customers
  • Business Organisations - types of organisation and how they work
  • Office Procedures - eg photocopying and dealing with mail
  • Text and Word Processing

The timetable will also include Key Skills and IT (ECDL). You will be able to develop literacy and numeracy skills through Additional Learning Support.

Work experience

You will be expected to practise and develop your skills both in the College's Student Business Centre and during two weeks' work placement in a local organisation. In addition, from April onwards you may be able to spend one full day a week on placement.

When does the course start and how long does it last?

The course starts in September and lasts for one academic year ending in June.

What qualifications are needed to do the course?

  • GCSE grades D and above including English
  • Level 1 Certificate in Administration or a Distinction in the BTEC Introductory Certificate in Business, Retail and Administration
  • Mature students do not need any formal qualifications but will require an interview with a member of the course team
  • All learners would be expected to have a working knowledge of literacy and numeracy and will undergo initial assessment of these subjects.

The course is available at our Consett site.

How will the learner be assessed?

The course will be assessed using a combination of exams and practical assignments.

How much will the course cost?

Textbooks relating to the course are available for loan from our Learning Resource Centre. You will need stationery, including a lever-arch file.

What progression routes are available?

On successful completion of the course learners could progress to:

  • Further learning opportunities through a work based programme
  • Directly into employment
