AS Level Physical Education and Sport
Why should I study AS Level Physical Education and Sport?
This course will allow the learner to progress to:
- A2 Physical Education and Sport
- Sport based careers in the leisure industry
- Uniformed Services based careers
What will be studied on the course?
Learners will study four main areas of work these will include:
- Biology/Anatomy based modules
- History/Sociology/Psychological aspects of the performer
- Written course work
- Practical course work
When does the course start and how long does it last?
This course starts in September for 34 weeks and lasts for one academic year.
What qualifications are needed to do the course?
- 5 GCSEs at grades A to C are required, to include Maths and English
- a Science subject and GCSE PE would be a great help
Where is the course based?
The course is based in Consett.
How will the learner be assessed?
The course will be assessed by two written external exams, one piece of course work and a practical assessment.
How much will the course cost?
There are no direct costs involved in the course, but practical sports sessions will require appropriate sportswear.
What progression routes are available?
The completion of this module will normally lead to A2 Physical Education and Sport but could lead to:
- employment in Leisure Centres
- careers in Uniformed Services
- and can possibly be used towards an UCAS application for sport based courses
