An apprenticeship allows you to work, earn and gain a qualification. At the end of it you will get a recognised qualification and learn essential skills on the job.

Anyone over 16 can apply to do an apprenticeship; the programme starts once you commence employment.

Yes, apprenticeships are paid employment. Your salary will vary depending on your employer; the minimum wage for an apprentice is currently £3.40 per hour (this rises to £3.50 from April 2017).

Typically, it takes one to two years to complete an Apprenticeship; however some may take longer due to the nature of the programme.

How you study can vary and will depend on the apprenticeship you are studying. You may have to attend college one day a week, or it may be delivered entirely in the workplace.

 

Most apprenticeships will also include a Maths and English requirement. If you do not have existing Maths and English qualifications, you may have to attend College to study.

All apprentices are expected to work independently with the support of a dedicated and experienced assessor. We use an e-portfolio system, Smart Assessor, which enables you to submit your work and track your progress online.

We also expect:

  • A commitment to produce regular evidence for you e-portfolio
  • An awareness of your targets and a commitment to achieving them
  • A responsibility for your own learning (with support from your assessor)
  • Regular visits from your assessor
  • Contact with your assessor via email and phone
  • Support to help you cope with any learning difficulties
  • Resources to support your course

Yes, as long as your employer offers the right conditions for the Apprenticeship. The College can check this with your employer.

Qualifications vary depending on your Apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are offered at Levels 2, 3, 4 and 5. The qualification will depend on the framework.

At the end of your apprenticeship, you be able to progress onto the next level with your employer.
